The Best Scholarships in Nevada

​Heading to college is an exciting time in life’s journey. It marks a milestone in the transition of being a teenager to an adult ready for the real world. The college application process can be a daunting one. There was a 3.7 percent increase in the cost of private school education and a 2.9 percent increase at public universities in the 2014-2015 school year according to The College Board. With the cost of college rising each year exponentially, paying for your college education presents more of a challenge. Here are some scholarships tailored specifically for those from the great state of Nevada or who are attending schools in the state. 1.Daniel Scafidi Greater Nevada Athlete Award This scholarship is available to students from Washoe, Nevada, who participate in athletics. Candidates are required to have a minimum 3.2-grade point average and demonstrate strength of character and commitment to teamwork. The essay along with high school transcripts and a statement of career goals should be included in the application. The application should include transcripts, two letters or recommendation, and a biographical essay which describes a significant achievement of the applicant. This year’s deadline is September 1, 2016.Value of Scholarship: $1,000 ($500)Number of Scholarships Awarded: Five. Two first place awards of $1,000. One $500 award for a student from Northern Nevada. To be eligible, candidates must demonstrate a critical financial need and involvement in co-curricular and community service activities. This year’s application deadline was June 1, 2016. Students must have a minimum 3.5-grade point average on a 4.0 scale. This renewable award requires applicants to score a minimum 27 on the ACT and 1210 on the SAT exam.
